The Culpepper & Merriweather circus sponsored by Lake County Chamber of Commerce and Lake County School District #7 came to Lakeview May 14 and 15 and it was a great success. Chamber of Commerce Dir. Shelley Batty said, “It went very well; the crowds were great, and the circus met all our expectations.”

There’s a new business in town and it’s called Lacey’s — Coffee & Flowers. The shop is in the Honker Mall, in the space previously known as Cycle Town Coffee. Entrepreneur Lacey Hansen has redesigned the entire coffee shop and is ready for her Grand Opening this weekend. The shop’s hours are 8:30 a.m. — 3:30 p.m., Monday — Friday and it is located at 25 N E St. Suite 1.

A lucky lady and lass are serving as this year’s grand and wee leprechauns, in what marks 38 years of Irish Days celebrations in Lakeview. Grand Leprechaun Patsy Hall is following in the footsteps of her parents, Dan and Kit (O’Leary) Collins, who served as grand leprechaun in 1992 and 2010, respectively.

Irish Days is almost here! Festivities will take place Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17. There are many returning traditions this year, as well as some new ones.

Entries are being accepted for children interested in being this year’s Wee Leprechaun for Lakeview’s annual Irish Days. The Wee Leprechaun will be chosen at random from those who enter the drawing by turning in their entry form to the Examiner.

Clare McKay, a rural Oregon filmmaker who years ago attended Paisley Charter School, will present her documentary film, “Living the American Dream,” at the Alger Theater this Saturday, Feb. 17. McKay who is a woman of color, filmmaker, cowboy poet, artist, singer, and photographer. Her feature film is about her and her siblings who were adopted from Haiti and raised on a ranch in rural Eastern Oregon.

It was a happenstance of the Alger Theater’s sign retrofit and relighting during this 2023 holiday season that has brought much anticipated light to the main thoroughfare of downtown Lakeview. “The Alger,” as we often refer to it, is a historic art deco era theater which has been under renovation by Lakeview Community Partnership (LCP). After nearly a year-and-a-half of weekly poker tournaments, the Eagles Lodge hosted its Hold’em Championship over the weekend. Twenty-three players were in attendance, vying for ten prizes, some of which were donated by sponsors of the poker league.

I was born and raised here in Lakeview Oregon and just recently turned 40.. and I feel nostalgic for the 90's and early 00's. It's just not the same as it was when I was growing up. Back when people had morals and were decent to one another. Now everyone is screwing each other over and kicking people down when they're at their worst. There's no compation for the one's who don't have great lives. People literally don't believe that we have a homeless population here. As I myself have been homeless I know it's very much a thing that is going on whether you want to turn a blind eye to it or not.. I myself will have 5 years clean from dope on Nov 22, 2033 and my heart absolutely breaks for the people still suffering through addiction. It's not a easy thing to pull yourself out of and in this town it's even harder. Most of the town looks at addiction like it's something that happens to other people and will never touch their own family. But that's the biggest lie you can tell yourself. Addiction doesn't discriminate and it can happen to anyone. Never say never. I didn't just wake up one day and decide that I wanted to become an addict and lose 13 years of my life to several drugs.. unfortunately addiction is just a symptom of the deeper pain and trauma I endured throughout my life. I used drugs to escape from the hell within my own head and heart and numb the excruciatingly horrible things that I was never equipped to deal with in a healthy manner. Some people are lucky enough to be able to pick up a drug once or twice and then never have any problems with it.. I unfortunately wasn't blessed with that option. I'm not even ashamed of my past anymore. I lived and fought through the depths of hell and am lucky enough to still be here to continue bettering myself and trying to be a better version of myself than I was the day before. God bless you to all the addicts still suffering tonight. I pray for you and I pray that your family gets to see you pull yourself up and out of the darkness you run from. You're not alone in this world and you have someone out here rooting for you to succeed in whatever life you're destined for. Not everyone is ignorant and mean to find out that you have a debilitating disease.. I for one am full of compassion and sympathy for you. We do recover. If I can find my way back then I have faith that everyone can find the path back into the light.
