Celebrating Local Scholars: WCJC Commencement Ceremonies Tomorrow
Wharton County Junior College in Wharton, Texas, will hold two commencement ceremonies on May 11, 2024, at the Gene Bahnsen Gymnasium. The first ceremony, starting at 10 a.m., will celebrate Associate of Arts and Science graduates, and the second, at 2 p.m., will honor Associate of Applied Science graduates.
Local Pride: 16 Blinn College Students Join Prestigious Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Sixteen students from Blinn College were recently inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society. This ceremony recognized students from the Brenham, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses for their academic achievements. To join PTK, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and at least 12 transferrable credit hours.
Local Talent and Future Scholars Shine at WCJC's UIL Event with $100K in Scholarships Awarded
Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) recently hosted a University Interscholastic League (UIL) event at its Wharton campus. The event attracted students from 22 local schools, who competed in various academic and extracurricular activities. WCJC supported these achievements by offering nearly $100,000 in scholarships to outstanding participants, helping reduce their future educational expenses.
New Agreement between WCJC and TWU Simplifies Transfer Process for Local Students
Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) and Texas Woman's University (TWU) have entered into an agreement to simplify the transfer process for WCJC students to TWU. WCJC President Betty McCrohan and TWU's Vice Provost, Dr. Jorge Figueroa, were among the signatories.
Boost for Local Geology Students - WCJC Receives Grant for Advanced Learning Opportunities
Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) in Texas has been awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation. This grant will support geology students with practical learning experiences. It will fund the use of drones for geological mapping and a six-day field trip to New Mexico. The initiative is part of a wider effort to enhance STEM education at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. WCJC partnered with the University of Houston to secure the grant, which was given to about 25% of applicants.
