It wasn’t until the early 1970s, when Willie Glass was in the seventh grade, that his rural, west Alabama school district made a plan to desegregate. From 1963 until its closure in 1970, Glass attended Hopewell High School, an all-Black Rosenwald school in Pickens County, Alabama.
