The Pleasantville cross country teams will travel to Saydel tonight. The Trojans will compete alongside eight other teams at the Saydel Cross Country Invitational. On Monday, the girls team finished third at the Nodaway Valley Cross Country Meet and the boys team finished eighth. The Trojan girls finished with 93 team points and their top finisher was Summer Isley who finished seventh with a time of 21:02.70. The Trojan boys finished with 205 team points and their top finisher was Kurt Kuhnen who finished eighth with a time of 18:18.70.

A Thursday night trip to Des Moines could be a short one as the #4 in 4A Pella football team sizes up a struggling Hoover team at Mediacom Stadium. The Dutch are coming off of a big stretch, with consecutive victories over #2 in 4A Indianola, #7 Xavier, Carlisle, and #5 Newton. Head Coach Jay McKinstrey is hopeful his team can take full advantage against the Huskies, who are 0-6 and have not been competitive with consecutive 56-point losses in the district to #8 Gilbert and Bondurant-Farrar.

07 Oct 24 – The Dragons (4-2) welcomed the Rams of Southeast (3-3) into Dragon Stadium Friday evening, decided by halftime with a final score of 34-0. The Johnston student section roared as the Dragons opened up the game with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown by senior Vincent Peterson. Ian Yates PAT was good and just 13 seconds, and on the first play of the game, the Dragons saw themselves holding an early 7-0 lead against the back-to-back-to-back 5A state champions.

The Newton Volleyball team picked up their 10th win of the season in Oskaloosa last night and first in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Cardinals defeated the Indians 3-1(25-17, 21-25, 28-26, 25-19). Newton is 1-4 in the conference and 10-12 on the year. Oskaloosa falls to 0-5 in conference play and 6-15 overall. Top performers for Newton were Isabelle Rawlins with 50 assists, three kills, 14 digs, and two aces. Delaney Woollums chipped in 23 kills, 17 digs, two aces, and one block. Chloe Swank had 44 digs, an ace, and an assist. Macy Lampe added 24 kills and 13 digs. Next up for the Cardinals is a home triangular tomorrow against Des Moines North and Williamsburg. That will begin at 5 p.m. in Newton High School’s Upper Gym.

The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Volleyball team was able to take care of business on Tuesday, beating Bondurant-Farrar for their 15th victory. The Class 4A 10th ranked Tigers took all three sets from the Bluejays as they won the first by a score of 25-17, the second 25-13, and the third 25-19. ADM racked up 28 assists in the game, 30 kills, 43 digs and acquired 11 serve aces. Individually, Junior Elise Coghlan had 21 assists, while Junior Macy Person tallied 11 digs, and Freshman Ella Subbert had three blocks. The Tigers have now won the last five games in the series.

The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team has a chance to keep their strong season rolling and lock up a postseason bid when they travel to Colfax-Mingo Friday. SK is 5-1 on the year, winners of five straight, and an unbeaten 3-0 in district play, outscoring their opponents 135-28 in three district games, including a 42-21 win at Pella Christian a week ago. The Cobras outgained the Eagles 461-321, and put up more than 400 of their yards on the ground. Isaac Bruns had a 232 yard rushing night with three scores, Jacob Libe and Brady Clark had rushing touchdowns, and Braydon Wood threw a score to Bruns. On defense, Ashton Schwab and John Berg each had six tackles and Zach Guffey recovered a fumble. Sigourney-Keota enters this week ranked No. 8 in Class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Athletic Association. This year, SK is averaging 32 points per game and giving up 17, with 311 yards per night, 275 rushing. Individually, Wood is nine of 16 throwing for two scores and three picks. Bruns has caught three balls for 86 yards and a touchdown. Clark, Ayden Galindo and Hunter Sellers also have touchdown grabs. Bruns is the leader on the ground with 127 carries, 929 yards and state best 14 touchdowns. Ike Molyneux has added three rushing scores. Ashton Schwab has 26 tackles, five for loss. As the volleyball season begins to come towards its finale, the West Central Valley Wildcats are out of volleyball action this week as they prepare for the District tournament at the Des Moines Christian High School Gym next Monday. With the action set to begin on October 14th, the Wildcats will use this week off of competitive action to fine tune and prepare for the district tournament.

The Roland-Story Norsemen football team returns to action on Friday Night, as they host the Des Moines Christian Lions for senior night in Class 2A, District 8 action at Kerry Van Winkle Field in Story City. Roland-Story enters at 4-2 and ranked #8 in Class 2A, while Des Moines Christian enters at 4-2 and ranked #10 in Class 2A. Roland-Story won last season’s meeting in Urbandale 41-14 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
