Lubbock Man Guilty of Shooting Death Avoids Prison Time
A man who pled guilty of shooting his girlfriend has avoided a prison sentence by accepting a lesser punishment. Jason Mercado, 53, was placed on probation following a guilty plea for the shooting death of his girlfriend in 2020. Instead of serving the normal five years to life in prison, Mercado will stay on probation for 10 years.

Plainsmen Prevail Over Mustangs in Rivalry Showdown
LUBBOCK, TX — The Monterey Plainsmen faced off against the Coronado Mustangs in the highly anticipated "50th Street vs. 34th Street" rivalry game during Coronado’s homecoming on Friday, October 4. Although both 5A teams came into the matchup with 1-4 records, Monterey faced a much tougher non-district schedule. Nevertheless, the Mustangs kept it close in the first half, trailing by just 9 points. I had a job at a call center, a million years ago, where I literally spent more time coloring in a coloring book and doing crossword puzzle than actually working.
