'Athens County did a great job getting boots on the ground'
Hurricane Helene’s invasion caused power outages, trees to snap and kept first responders busy this past weekend. Athens County Emergency Management Agency director Teresa Fouts-Imler said there were 14 weather related calls for service. Three calls involved electric lines/transformers, with 11 calls linked to road hazards, debris and trees down on the roadways and utility lines. Power outages were reported near and far across the county over the weekend with most power being restored as of Monday morning. No injuries were reported. ...

Navarro earns MAC weekly honors
CLEVELAND — The Ohio football program’s graduate student quarterback earned Mid-American Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades for his performance against the Akron Zips. He shares the title with Bowling Green’s junior tight end, Harold Fannin Jr. Navarro had a career day against the Zips, leading the Bobcats to a 30-10 Homecoming victory to open MAC play. The quarterback set career highs in single-game yards (331) as well as rushing yards (113), leading the team on the ground with 13 carries and a touchdown. Notably, Navarro tied his single-game record for passing yards (204) as well. He finished the game with three total touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing). The Bobcats will continue MAC play on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas.
