In “The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians”, James Patterson steps out of the detective/mystery fiction genre and into the world of real-life people, namely booksellers and librarians. Being a librarian is the best job in the world for many reasons. We man the stations at the hubs of our communities. In small towns, like Littleton, the library might be the only place a person can make a copy, send a fax, use a public computer, and yes…check out a book. In Littleton, we are lucky to have a great library (yes, my bias is showing), but we also have the best used book store in five counties right next door (thanks to our amazing Friends of the Library). There is no greater satisfaction than helping our patrons. One of my favorite things happened just recently. A patron came in looking for the much-needed sequel to the book she’d just finished. I gladly put that book in her hands and witnessed her smiling face. And there is nothing like the happy face of a child when they find a book with their favorite cartoon character as the star of the book.
