Danville honors service members on Memorial Day
Danville, Pa. — Under gray skies, Danville's Memorial Day ceremony went off without the threatened rain, as veterans, American Legion members, and onlookers honored those fallen Monday morning. The ceremony began at the Riverside Bridge at 10 a.m. with an invocation by Anthony Turel Jr., a U.S. Air Force veteran and VFW chaplain, followed by a tribute of flowers tossed from the bridge to honor those who were buried or lost at sea. Second-graders Ava Lynch and Naila Budic, along with pre-K student Piper Brown served as the flower girls for the ceremony. Danville's American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard gave the rifle salute before U.S. Navy veteran and Honor Guard Bugler Marvin Sassaman played "Taps." Following the bridge ceremony, the parade traveled through downtown Danville. The Memorial Park Ceremony, which was to take place at the park on Bloom Street, was moved to the Danville Middle School due to weather.
