Driver extricated, transported after vehicle flips
Around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, the driver of this 2003 Honda Pilot left Highway 163 at County Road 750 in Riceville, rolling several times before landing against this power pole. The driver had to extricated by fire personnel then transported to Erlanger Hospital by AMR. Claxton Fire, Etowah Rural Fire, Athens Rural Fire, the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department and VEC all responded. Englewood Rural Fire stood by at the Etowah Rural Fire Station. Claxton Fire 2nd Lt. Jonathan Bartley was in command of the scene. Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Caleb Ballard investigated the accident.
Garage a total loss after explosion, fire
The occupant of this residence located on County Road 659 in Athens heard a loud boom and when she went to check, she found the garage on fire from several propane and compressed cans which exploded around 6 p.m. Monday. The garage was used as an auto repair shop. The garage and its contents were a total loss. Athens Rural Fire, Claxton Fire, Etowah Rural Fire and AUB all responded. Athens Rural Fire First Lt. Theo Arnwine was in command of the scene.
