Orange Beach bridge tolls end today at noon
Motorists can cross to and from Orange Beach toll-free beginning at 12 p.m. today. The tolls — currently $5 — are being removed pursuant to the Alabama Department of Transporation's (ALDOT) $57 million purchase of the private from its private owners.

During heavy rains, Baldwin County resident Tom Eberly and his wife, Laurie, get out and drive to the sanitary sewage lift station at Brinks Willis Road and State Highway 59 in Foley. Often, what they observe is sewage overflowing into a drainage ditch or into the nearby woods, he says.

$5M FEMA grant will help Foley build a hurricane safe room
With the help of a federal grant, Foley is in the beginning stages of constructing a safe room downtown that’s estimated to cost over $5.5 million. A “safe room” is a facility specifically designed to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) criteria and “provide near-absolute protection in extreme wind events, including tornadoes and hurricanes,” according to the agency’s website.
