Oct. 7—LIMA — An Ottawa man's $75,000 bond remained the same Monday after Judge Jeffrey Reed denied a reduction in Allen County Common Pleas Court. Jonathon Gillette's attorney, Public Defender Kenneth Sturgill, argued for an own-recognizance bond with an ankle monitor or a bond reduction because there was no violence or theft in the incident. Man killed in fiery crash with tanker truck
WESTON, Ohio — A Deshler, Ohio, man was killed Monday when he ran a stop sign and slammed into a passing tanker truck. Jacob Kern, 31, was southbound on Range Line Road around 3:45 p.m. Monday when he failed to stop for the stop sign for U.S. 6 and collided with an eastbound tanker truck being driven by John Secord, 44, of LaSalle, Mich., according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Kern’s pickup became lodged under the tanker and caught fire. Mr. Kern died at the scene. The tanker, which was hauling ethanol, did not suffer a significant rupture or leak, and its contents were not consumed by the fire. The incident was still under investigation Tuesday.
