OXNARD, Calif.-Members of the Channel Islands High School Band performed at the Oxnard "Remember and Honor" Memorial Day Ceremony. Vietnam Veterans sat center stage. They set a MIssing Man table and raised a POW-MIA flag in honor of those Missing In Action. Speakers included Mayor John Zaragoza. Officers on horseback watched from a safe distance. Conejo Canyons Bridge completion connects trails, open space in T.O.
The $3.3 million Conejo Canyons Bridge in Thousand Oaks was recently completed and is now providing hikers with better access to thousands of acres of open space. The 140-foot-long span goes across the Arroyo Conejo Creek in the Conejo Canyons Open Space area, improving access to popular Wildwood Regional Park. It also provides a defined route between the Santa Rosa Equestrian Park and Wildwood Canyon, city officials said in a news release.
Home prices, sales volume both up in April as Ventura County median inches closer to $1M
Ventura County's real estate market has been heating up in recent months with more homes selling and more homes on the market so far in 2024 than last year. The median price of all single-family existing homes sold in Ventura County in April was $940,000, up 2.4% from the month before and 6.2% higher than in April 2023, according to data released last week by the California Association of Realtors. The median is the point at which half of the sales are for less and half for more.
County lifts Ventura psychiatric hospital's suspension conditionally. Here's what it means
A Ventura psychiatric hospital would regain its authority to admit involuntary patients but with tight oversight under a proposed compliance agreement. The board of supervisors on Tuesday authorized county mental health chief Loretta Denering to negotiate the agreement with Vista del Mar Hospital in a unanimous vote. Denering suspended involuntary admissions seven months ago but now supports reinstatement of the hospital's privileges "if and only so long" as officials at the 55-bed hospital enter into and comply with the agreement.

Earlier this month, the City Council voted to move forward with preliminary design for a $123.2 million expansion of the Civic Arts Plaza campus, a project that will include a new city hall, a plaza that could host farmers’ markets and community events, a small outdoor amphitheater, retail space for shopping and dining, renovation of the existing City Hall building and modest number of apartments or condominiums.
