South Central softball went 1-1 on Saturday at the Olney Tiger Classic, picking up a win over Lawrenceville, 13-2, before falling to host Olney, 8-2. In their opening game, South Central got on the board early in the first inning with back to back singles by Kyra Swift and Kaitlyn Swift to put runners on before a double from Taegan Webster drove in both and Lauren Johnson singled to scored Webster for a 3-0 South Central lead. The Cougars would add on one more run in the inning with a sacrifice fly from Zoey Feldhake bringing in Johnson to score and extending the lead to 4-0. After a scoreless second inning for the Cougars and Tigers, South Central added on another run in the top of the third as Amelia Montes scored on a passed ball and tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch and a single from Montes brought in another run for a 7-0 Cougars lead. Lawrenceville got their first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 7-1 before the fifth inning would by scoreless for both teams. South Central’s best scoring inning came in the top of the sixth inning with the top of the order getting things going. A Kyra Swift single followed by Kaitlyn Swift reaching base on an error brought in a run to make it 8-1 and then South Central would load the bases. A single from Kinlee Thompson drove in another run and a single from Feldhake scored two to push the lead to 11-1. The Cougars added on one more run with a single from Ella Watwood that scored Thompson for a 12-1 South Central lead. Lawrenceville scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to cut it to 13-2, but the Cougars held the Indians to just that one run to close out the 13-2, run rule win.
