Barton Community College's Agriculture Department is planning a Career Expo on April 10, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be held in the new Ag and Transportation Complex and aims to inform students about career paths in agriculture.
USD 428 switching to Coca-Cola after 2024 school year
The USD 428 Board of Education had to answer a generations-old question during Monday's meeting: Pepsi or Coca-Cola? The Great Bend district's five-year contract with Pepsi will expire in May. Great Bend High School Activities Director Matt Westerhaus did some of the legwork behind the decision and presented the issue to the board.

April 8 - 5 p.m. • Persons may present ideas or concerns regarding USD 428. The Board will take no action at this meeting. Such items will be referred to the appropriate administrator(s) for future information and researched and reported back to the Board at a later meeting. Personalities and behavior of employees are not to be presented during this period but are to be reported to the employee’s immediate supervisor. The president shall determine the amount of time to be spent on citizen participation.
Ohnmacht wins another triple gold; boys ninth at Bowman Invite
The late addition of Class 3A Lakin to Friday’s Jack Bowman Invitational at Great Bend High School proved to be a good one for track and field fans. Junior Colter Oldham stole some of the show by bouncing the shot put out over the wall with the state’s best throw this spring. The Broncs finished third against mostly larger schools with 90 points. Andale took the win over Bishop Carroll 123.75-100. Great Bend scored 41 points for ninth place.
Challenge brings stock market to life for Great Bend students
Learning the risks and rewards of Wall Street, 300 students at Great Bend High School recently participated in the Seventh Annual Legacy Financial Solutions Investment Challenge. Utilizing an online platform called How the Market Works, participants started the month of February with $100,000 virtual cash to “invest” at their discretion....
Hoisington school board moves ahead with press box upgrade
The USD 431 Board of Education had a pair of options for renovations of the press box at Elton Brown Field outside Hoisington High School. Adding a second level to the box would cost the district approximately $90,000. Option two included cosmetic improvements to the existing box and extending the guard rail on the roof for roughly half that price. At Monday's meeting, Superintendent Patrick Crowdis put the matter to a vote.
