Kansas teacher appearing on 'Wheel of Fortune' Friday
Smiles, energy, and enthusiasm. As it turns out, those are the ingredients for "Wheel of Fortune" fans to become contestants. Doing just that has been a longtime dream for Great Bend native Kiley Klug, now an English teacher at Hoisington Middle School. Those dreams came true after one of Klug's many attempts to get on the show finally panned out. Her show will air on Friday, April 5 on NBC.
ABBAFAB to give tribute to music of ABBA in Great Bend
ABBAFAB will pay tribute to the legendary supergroup ABBA, one of the most popular and successful music groups of all time, for the Golden Belt Community Concert Association’s second to last concert of the 2023-2024 season. The concert is set for 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
April is the time to see whooping cranes at Bottoms, Quivira
Bird watchers are always aware of activity at Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira National Wildlife Refuge in Stafford County. The eyes get a little more focused around the first week of April. Historic bird counts indicate now is the time to see whooping cranes. Only around 500 of the birds remain in the North American flock that travels between Texas and northern Canada. Birders reported 29 of the birds at Quivira and 26 at Cheyenne Bottoms over the weekend. Kansas Wetlands Education Center Director Curtis Wolf said now is the time to catch a rare glimpse.
