White Hawks head to Glencoe for invite
The Mound Westonka White Hawks traveled to Glencoe on Sept. 19 for the Caty Delwiche Invitational. The meet is held in honor of Caty, a cross country runner from Glencoe that was hit by a drunk driver as she was running near her college campus as a freshman in 2007. She had just come off a stellar high school career and the running community was shocked by this tragedy. TCU volleyball falls to Glencoe-Silver Lake on the road
Tuesday evening, the Tri-City United volleyball made the trip to Glencoe-Silver Lake to take on the Panthers. The teams took turns controlling the action in the first two sets, leading to a 1-1 tie, but the Panthers set the tone down the stretch to eventually claim the 3-1 (25-14, 15-25, 25-15, 25-19) victory over TCU. With the loss, the Titans stand at 8-9 on the season (2-3 BSE) with just three matches remaining in the regular season schedule. TCU will return to action Thursday, Oct. 3, when the team hosts the No. 1 ranked class AA team in the state of Minnesota, Belle Plaine. The match is the last home game for the Titans with trips to Fairmont and Sibley East on the schedule for next Tuesday and Thursday.
Wildcats gear up for Homecoming week
Community Drive will again be a gathering place for the community when Waconia High School hosts its 2024 Homecoming parade there Friday, Oct. 4. The parade, which resumed just a few years ago, is back now as an annual tradition and will culminate a full week of activities Sept. 30-Oct. 4 leading up to the Wildcat football game against Chaska. The parade is slated to start at 5 p.m. next Friday with participants and floats heading down Community Drive between the middle school and high school to the football field for other pre-game festivities followed by kickoff at 7 p.m. Other Wildcat fall sports teams also will be in action during Homecoming week, and each day next week features special dress-up days, also a traveling pep fest to all Waconia schools next Friday. Next Wednesday evening, Oct. 2, students can enjoy an outdoor movie showing of Top Gun Maverick at Wildcat Stadium.
Golfing for Good: Northwest Tonka Lions tee up for annual community golf event
On Oct. 4, the Northwest Tonka Lions Club will host their fourth annual community golf event at Timber Creek Golf Course in Watertown, bringing together golfers for a day of fun and fundraising.
