Why We’re Now Seeing an Absurd Amount of Squirrels This Year in the Hudson Valley
Think you've seen more squirrels than usual this year in the Hudson Valley? You're not alone. It's been an absolute squirrel party in my backyard in Newburgh, NY, much to the excitement of our dog. Every morning, he sprints to the door, getting ready to charge out into the yard and send the fluffy rodents scurrying in all directions. It turns out that there actually might be a scientific reason behind the reported "squirrel boom".
Hudson Valley German Restaurant Still Going Strong After 70 Years
There's a restaurant in the Hudson Valley that's still making traditional German dishes from scratch like they did in the 1950s. The story of the Mountain Brauhaus actually goes all the way back to 1917. That's when Emil Ruoff and his two brothers emigrated from southern Germany to New York City. Eventually, Emil settled down in Gardiner, New York where he opened a restaurant on the corner of Route 299 and Route 44/55. Originally named The Sugar Bowl, the business was primarily a burger joint. But Emil and his German employees couldn't resist adding some of their favorite recipes from their homeland to the menu. Eventually, word got out about these incredible dishes and The Mountain Brauhaus was born.

A Non Profit Makes New York State Park Accessible for All Hikers
I took a brief staycation a few weeks ago and had the opportunity to head to Lake Minnewaska for an afternoon. I haven't been up there in decades so much has changed. The lake and the property surrounding it are as beautiful as I remember but I had no idea they put in the visitor center and the parking lot at the top. It made it easy for me and my group to do the lake trails and then the falls without overdoing it. I was so impressed by how accessible everything was and how easy it was to travel the trails.

My favorite season overall is the summer. I feel I get to enjoy the most out of the day in summer. Even when I have to work all day, I can leave the studio at the end of the day and know I have several good hours of sun and warmth left. That being said; however, fall is my favorite season for drinking! I am a huge fan of a lot of autumn specialties like Oktoberfest brews, maple bourbons, and of course, apple cider!
