Frisco moving forward with design contract and master plan for 1,000-acre Grand Park

Paul Meltzer announces he won't seek reelection; puts support behind a newcomer for Denton City Council
Mayor Pro Tem Paul Meltzer, who first won the seat for District 3 last year, announced via social media that he would not be seeking a second term in the spring. “I know it’s a bit early in the cycle to make a statement like this, but I wanted to give others plenty of time to get out, knock on doors and make their cases to the public,” Meltzer wrote in his Oct. 1 social media posts. “I’ve decided not to run for re-election next year. There are many outstanding, capable people in District 3, some of whom have spent years volunteering in public service roles and who would make great council members.”
Denton County reports 4 more human cases of West Nile Virus
Denton County Public Health on Thursday four new human cases of West Nile Virus, including some residents of southern Denton County. Residents of Flower Mound, Trophy Club and Carrollton were diagnosed with West Nile Virus Non-neuroinvasive Disease, and a resident of The Colony was diagnosed with West Nile Virus Neuroinvasive Disease. This brings the total of WNV cases to 18 in Denton County in 2024. Two people have died of WNV in the county this year.

Local water supply corp. prohibits all outdoor watering
The Cross Timbers Water Supply Corp. has escalated its watering restrictions after its water main break has gotten worse. The CTWSC — which services a 20-square-mile area in and around Bartonville, Double Oak and Copper Canyon — had implemented Stage 3 of its Water Demand Plan (which does not allow outdoor watering between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.) on Wednesday morning. On Thursday, it reached Stage 4, which requires “everyone to turn off their sprinkler irrigation, with the exception of members using a private well,” said General Manager Chad Wolf.
