York Becomes the First City in Maine to Ban Plastic Utensils
This sounds absolutely absurd. This is right up there with the moment we all decided that we were going to ban plastic straws and replace them with paper straws that disintegrate in your mouth before you can finish your drink. I'm not going to make this entire article political (rather it's going to be more opinionated), but I have to get the logistics out of the way first.

Road Maintenance Delay Angers Residents
At the May 23 meeting of the Nottingham Board of Selectmen the board heard a complaint from a resident who had complained in a recent meeting about the town’s failure to maintain their road. Their road has not been graded since last autumn. They complained that many of the town’s dirt roads were in terrible shape and that nothing had been done all winter about the potholes. They asked whether there was no budget for fixing the roads, and if so, how was all of the recent ditching and road widening work funded rather than routine repair work?
Field of Honor: 550 flags at Memorial Day weekend tribute in Rochester
ROCHESTER — For the fourth year, the city common has been transformed into a Field of Honor, celebrating the lives and sacrifices of veterans on Memorial Day weekend. Vouchers for Veteran’ Field of Honor is hosted by the city of Rochester and puts heroism on display. Flags were placed Friday and the event was set to run through Memorial Day on Monday. The Field of Honor is hundreds of 8-foot flag poles each flying a 3-by-5-foot American flag. Attached to each pole is a yellow silk ribbon and a laminated card displaying the name, branch, rank and insignia of a veteran being honored.
This New Hampshire City Will Send You a ‘Judgy’ Letter if Your Grass is Overgrown
If you let the grass get too overgrown on your lawn, the city will intervene, depending on where you live. Were you aware this is a thing? I always thought that once you buy a piece of land, it's yours, and you can choose to maintain (or not maintain) your property however you see fit.
Recycling Center's Summer Hours Sparks Dispute
In late April, the staff of Nottingham’s Recycling Center requested that the center not shift to summer hours at the beginning of May, as has been done in the past. From May to October the Recycling Center has been open Thursdays from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm. The rest of the year its Thursday hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The purpose of the summer hours is to provide people who work regular weekday business hours an opportunity during the hottest portion of the year to dispose of their trash and recycling sometime other than on a weekend.
Bridging the gap: York County’s $125K boost for homeless aid
ALFRED, Maine — Agencies that aid homeless people in York County now have a new source of funds designed to provide a helping hand. York County Manager Greg Zinser met with municipal managers, but there was little consensus on how best to help those without a roof over their heads. That led to discussions with the York County Homeless Response Hub — a group of social service agencies throughout the county — and a proposal.

New England’s Only Food Truck Park Opens This Weekend in Maine
New Englanders and our visitors love a good food truck. I mean, who doesn't? After all, the weather is warm enough to actually stay outside comfortably for only about four or five months out of the year, so eating from a food truck is very appealing. Lucky for us, Congdon's After Dark Food Truck Park opens up Memorial Day weekend.
