Phillips files lawsuit against Newberg school district, seeks $2.5 million in damages
The Newberg-Dundee school district’s already considerable legal woes grew exponentially last week with word that its former superintendent is taking the district to court. Stephen Phillips filed a lawsuit in Yamhill County Circuit Court in mid-September, claiming that through its board of directors the 4,100-student district wrongfully discharged him from the position, as well as breached the contract he signed when he joined the district in 2022.
