If you are one of the many, many animal lovers in this community, you are probably aware of the tale of Toby, the German Shepherd mix that tugged at the heartstrings of anybody who saw him, looking lost, homeless and hopeless at the Kroger shopping center in Loganville. For more than a month, Toby was seen at the center and fed and watered by many. Also, to everyone’s dismay, he was seen crossing over highways 78 and 81 regularly. Many tried to trap him in an attempt to better his life, but Toby was allusive, to say the least. His nightly escapes were chronicled on Facebook as frustrated rescues were attempted time and time again. Then one day the thread went dark. But that wasn’t because he had become a sad statistic of the Loganville roads, but rather because those attempting to rescue him were worried that some misguided attempts could lead him to become just that. However, the efforts to rescue him did not stop. And now, those who were eventually successful, are here to present the Rest of the Story: The rescue, and ongoing rehabilitation, of Toby – Loganville’s allusive Shepherd mix that now has a second chance at the good life.
