Oregon goes to the Santa Barbara Regional in NCAA tournament
This is why being on the bubble is so difficult. You have to wait to see when your name is called, if your name is called. The Oregon Ducks baseball team had to wait nearly the entire selection process until their name finally showed up on a four-team regional bracket on the ESPN2 telecast. But their name was called and the Ducks will stay on the West Coast as they will head down to play in the Santa Barbara Regional this weekend. Oregon (37-18) will open up with the San Diego Toreros (40-13), the champions of the West Coast Conference, on Friday. This is Oregon’s fourth straight tournament appearance. The Ducks were able to host a Super Regional last season after winning the Vanderbilt Regional, but lost to Oral Roberts. Also in the UCSB Regional along with the Gauchos (42-12) is Fresno State. The Bulldogs (33-27) won the Mountain West tournament and became that league’s automatic qualifier.
Opinion: Transgender athletes should be welcome to compete. But competition in women’s sports must also be fair.
Thompson is a junior at the University of Oregon and a member of the track team. Hammond is a student at an Oregon high school and member of the track team. The Oregonian/OregonLive recently published a piece by sports columnist Bill Oram addressing the controversy of a trans female runner from McDaniel High School who won the girls’ 200 meter race at Oregon’s high school track championships (“A transgender teen athlete’s life is not your cause,” May 21). He wrote “We don’t even know how her competitors felt about being thrust into this conversation. This seems to be the most accepting generation of kids ever, but it would be understandable if they are upset.”

Oregon baseball projected to be a 3-seed in Stillwater Regional
The Pac-12 baseball tournament didn’t go in the way the Oregon Ducks baseball team thought it would, but it seems as if the Ducks are safely in the NCAA tournament. According to D1baseball.com, Oregon is projected to be a 3-seed in the Stillwater, Okla. Regional that will be hosted by Oklahoma State. In the latest Field of 64 projection, the website has 2-seed Southern Miss and 4-seed Penn also in that particular regional. The Ducks would open with the Golden Eagles to begin the tournament. Oregon finished the season with a 37-18 record and 19-11 in conference play. Oklahoma State would be the national 13-seed with a regular season record of 39-17 with a Big XII record of 19-9. They play Oklahoma in the conference tournament Saturday night. Southern Miss is 39-18 and finished 20-10 in the Sun Belt and are playing in their league’s tournament against Appalachian State. As for Penn, they have already qualified for the NCAA tournament by winning the Ivy League tournament with an overall mark of 24-23. The Quakers defeated Cornell twice to advance in the postseason.
