WOODLAWN - For the second consecutive week, the Woodlawn Bears saw their opponent decide to end the game before halftime as the Augusta Red Devils began lining up for the post-game sportsmanship handshake with 3:32 left in the second quarter and the Bears up 40-0.Guy-Perkins, in its first year of football, ended its game at Woodlawn the previous week with 7:42 left in the first half and the Bears leading 58-0.Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer saw both good and bad with the back-to-back games ending early."Let's start with the bad - I wanted to play," Meyer said. "I told them to run the clock. We needed it conditioning-wise, and there was some stuff we needed to work on all the way through four quarters. "This was the second week in a row we cut it short, and we have a big game coming (up against the top-ranked Strong Bulldogs)," Meyer added. "It's (the Strong game) going to be a four-quarter ball game, no doubt about it."The good is, we kept every-body healthy tonight," he said. "I thought we played really hard. I thought we came out physical. That is the plan as always to be as physical as we can. I thought we did that. It showed. The backs ran really hard and hit the hole well, and they lowered their shoulder pads when they got there. That's physical ball. That's what we've got to be here." Both teams were struggling with numbers going into last Friday night's non-conference game at the Carl Jones Sports Complex. Woodlawn had 12 players suited up while Augusta had just nine. Both teams had reserves in street clothes on the sidelines as well.The Bears scored on five of their first six possessions, and were driving for another score when a Red Devil player was hurt at the end of fullback Ethan Oliver's 13-yard run down to the Augusta 14.
