A Hayward man, Ralph Edward Suddeth, has been sentenced to three years in prison plus four years of supervised release for felony neglect of two children in his care in April, 2024. MADISON — Gregory Vreeland of Springbrook, and owner/operator of the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad, Inc. in Spooner, was sentenced to prison for failure to pay employment taxes on Tuesday, Sept. 24. According to the Western District of Wisconsin U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. attorney Timothy O’Shea announced that Vreeland was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for failure to pay employment taxes, by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. SPOONER — On a sunny Monday, Sept. 23, the Spooner Rails girls golf team hosted Hayward and St. Croix Falls at the Spooner Golf Club. The Rails girls had a nice day, shooting a team 172 to take first place. Hayward shot 193, and St. Croix Falls totaled 225. Avery Voeltz and Layla Thompson led the way for the Spooner golfers, both girls shooting a 39. Ava Thompson shot 43, Whitney Rohde 51 and Serena Lu 55. All-Conference points for the match included Layla Thompson 5, Voeltz 5 and Ava Thompson 2. Nicole Finstad of Rice Lake was looking to run one more Ironman triathlon while she still could.
