10 most expensive homes sold in Portage County, May 13-19
A house in Franklin Township that sold for $796,500 tops the list of the most expensive residential real estate sales in Portage County in the past week. In total, 35 residential real estate sales were recorded in the county during the past week, with an average price of $286,416. The average price per square foot ended up at $161.
Fallen veterans honored in Streetsboro ceremonies
Veterans groups honored fallen soldiers Sunday in Streetsboro as they traveled in their annual "Round Robin" visit to various sites for observances. Among the stops was a service Sunday morning at Evergreen Cemetery, where American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. From there, the group traveled to Woodside Lake Park, where wreaths were laid in the water in honor of those who died at sea. Many other Portage County-area communities hosted events to honor fallen soldiers on Sunday and Monday.

Conservation pays: How a local company is turning Portage County trees into carbon credits
Davey Resource Group, a Davey Tree subsidiary, is preserving 22 forested acres in Portage County for which it has received carbon credits. DRG and Northeast Ohio nonprofit Western Reserve Land Conservancy joined a team to build and develop carbon credit markets for urban and exurban areas using a nearly $2 million federal grant.
