Croswell's 'Escape to Margaritaville' is feel-good Buffett for fans
ADRIAN — Few songs have made an impact like that of “Margaritaville.” Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett’s 1977 genre-bending “Gulf and Western” song has since become synonymous with the lackadaisical lifestyle championed by its lyrics, with beach-themed apparel, decor, and more billowing out behind it. By merchandising his biggest hit to Havana and back, Buffett built himself a legacy that saw him become one of the wealthiest musicians in the nation by the time of his 2023 passing. Why not add a Broadway musical to the stores, restaurants, and resorts?

Does the sports betting industry target African-Americans?
As rates of problem gambling among African-Americans in Lucas County reach record levels, critics of the sports betting industry have begun to question whether large gaming companies are consciously targeting Black people. According to a 2022 study conducted by Ohio for Responsible Gambling, 59.8 percent of African-Americans in Lucas County who gamble can be classified as “At-Risk/Problem Gamblers.” Only 19.5 percent of white gamblers and 19.4 percent of gamblers of other races are so classified. Since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal prohibition on commercial sports betting in 2018, sports gambling has become an enormous industry. Americans wagered a record $119.84 billion on sporting contests in 2023, according to the American Gaming Association, which is up 27.5 percent from 2022. Of the 38 states where sports betting is legal, Ohio ranks fourth as a source of sports-betting revenue.
Farm, food, and friends: Perrysburg market celebrates 25 years of growth
The Perrysburg Farmers Market, which draws thousands downtown every Thursday, has grown from a tiny seed planted 25 years ago to a big blooming bouquet of farmers, food, and friends. Cindy Bench, co-owner of Bench Farms in Curtice, Ohio, has been with the market since its meek beginnings. She recalled husband Dave trying to entice customers to come over and see the flowers and produce at their booth when it opened in 1999 on Louisiana Avenue. “He would boil sweet corn on a burner and hand it out for free, trying to get people,” Mrs. Bench said. “When we first started here, we begged for somebody to walk by,” she recalled. “It took about six, seven years for it to develop into something. And now we’re the premiere market.”
