Walk-off home run propels Perrysburg softball past Springfield in district final
CLYDE, Ohio — Hitting a walk-off home run to win a game is what players dream of. For Perrysburg's Jessica Miller, it became reality Friday. With Springfield surging to tie the game late, Miller took advantage of a pitch over the plate, slamming a solo shot over the left-field fence, lifting second-seeded Perrysburg to a 9-8 Division I district championship over the third-seeded Blue Devils at Joe Wilson Field at Clyde High School. "I was really hoping to hit a line drive just to get on base," Miller said. "A walk is a walk. I was going to be on base and I knew at some point, I was going to be that winning run."

Toledo’s Sornlaksup ready to make more tennis history
For the first time in the modern era, a University of Toledo men’s tennis player will be part of the NCAA Division I championship as an individual. The accomplishment is an appropriate career capstone for Pawit Sornlaksup, perhaps the most decorated player in UT history. The Thailand native is the second Rocket to be named Mid-American Conference player of the year three consecutive seasons. He was also named the MAC tournament MVP the past two years, leading UT to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. “It’s a great ending,” Toledo coach Al Wermer said. “I think it’s a storybook ending, no matter how well he does in Stillwater.” The schedule was set up for Sornlaksup to improve his individual rating, with an increased strength of schedule and opportunities to win matches. And he took full advantage, going 2-2 against NCAA competitors. Sornlaksup led another 7-6, 5-1 in an unfinished match.

Bowling Green bats come alive in middle innings of win over Toledo at Fifth Third Field
One swing of the bat from Landon Roque sent fans into a tizzy Friday at Fifth Third Field. And it sent a baseball across Monroe Street. The Bowling Green third baseman pummeled a Noah Johnson pitch down the left field line and into a parking lot on the south side of the Commodore Perry. The only suspense was whether it was fair or not. The two-run home run was part of a five-run fourth inning for the Falcons, who beat the University of Toledo 8-6 on a picturesque late spring night in downtown Toledo.

Evergreen’s Chamberlin breaks Ohio home run record in final at-bat
METAMORA, Ohio — In the final game of her superb four-year softball career at Evergreen High School, Vikings senior catcher Macy Chamberlin tied and then broke Ohio's all-time record for home runs on Thursday, hitting her 60th and 61st career homers in her team's 6-2 victory over visiting Port Clinton. “I couldn't have done it without my team,” Chamberlin said. “They have supported me throughout this whole year, through ups and downs, and through the pressure. Without this team, it wouldn't have been possible. “The only pressure I got was the pressure I gave myself. After games here and there, I would give myself pressure, but would come back the next day relaxed and ready to go.” Chamberlin, who was named first team All-Ohio the past two seasons, equaled the mark set by Hope Straight of Mount Vernon High School (from 2016-19) with a solo blast to right-center in the first inning against off of Redskins pitcher Ashton Sanchez.
