On Thursday, the South Bend Clay Colonials sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Berrien Springs Shamrocks. Jessica Cleveland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances.

Heading into the final round of the third annual La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership (LEAP) Olympics, things looked uncertain for defending the champions – The City of La Porte. They hadn’t won any of the previous rounds, but had performed consistently and put themselves in a strong – but not unassailable – position to win the friendly competition between 15 local businesses and organizations.

Buchanan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost 8-2 to the Niles Vikings. By CHARLIE PARENT Darius Adams, a five star rising senior out of La Lumiere (IN.) and the PSA Cardinals, had a strong EYBL Live Period, averaging 19.5 points across four games with college coaches in attendance for the first time this summer. “It felt great,” he said. “It was the first, which is obviously amazing. It’s great to play in front of college coaches and it’s a very competitive environment.” The 6-foot-4 combo guard had Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Nate Oats (Alabama), Mike Woodson (Indiana), and Dusty May (Michigan) at some of his games over the weekend. He holds offers from three of those schools, while May and Michigan have yet to re-offer since taking over, but he and Adams have been in contact. UConn’s Dan Hurley was also in attendance, though the Huskies have yet to reach out to Adams, he says. Adams is coveted for his three-way scoring ability and proves each game that he has next-level shot-creation, whether it be on the inside or behind the arc. He previously took unofficial visits to Tennessee, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Indiana, and now will look to take official visits after the AAU summer season. He recapped his previous visits to ZAGSBLOG at HoopHall. “After summer I’ll probably be cutting down my list,” he said. “I’ll do visits then too.” Adams broke down the schools who were watching his game this past weekend. Michigan State: “That means everything, them continuing to show interest in me. I’m interested in them, and it means a lot.” From HoopHall: “One coach I would say impressed me a lot was Michigan State. He [Tom Izzo] because when we were at the football game he sat next to me and talked to me the whole time so that really meant something to me.” Alabama: “I’ve been in contact with them for a long time, very interesfed. It’s very important to see them at my games and now it’s just keep building the relationship with them.” Michigan: “They haven’t [reoffered] but I’ve been in contact with them. They told me he [May] would be here today so it’s just about continuing to build a relationship with them.” Indiana (previous visit): “It was a really good experience just talking to [Mike] Woodson and watching the football game. BRIDGMAN — The Bridgman High School varsity softball team honored a group of teachers during a May 10 “Educator Appreciation” doubleheader with Berrien Springs. Each member of the team played in honor of a Bridgman Public Schools educator who has made an impact on them as a student and person.

Michigan City was sadly handed a defeat on Tuesday, but Ann Sawyer did her best to prevent it. Sawyer was dynamite, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Sawyer and Michigan City will be playing at home against Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Despite Sawyer's best efforts to the contrary, Michigan City will head into their next match having dropped seven straight matches. Will Wednesday be the turning point? Even if Michigan City couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

New Buffalo has not done well against Michigan Lutheran recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The New Buffalo Bison came out on top against the Michigan Lutheran Titans by a score of 8-5. This was a revenge game for New Buffalo, as the team was forced to settle for a 6-1 loss when these two played on Tuesday.

La Porte is coming off a 12-4 victory Friday at Kankakee Valley after two consecutive losses, 5-0 and 3-2, to a very strong Valparaiso team.
