WEST VALLEY CITY — Tamara Vaifanua traveled to Mana Academy for career day to speak about her love of journalism with students Friday. It seemed like this year's Kilby Block Party at the Utah State Fairpark was the unofficial flashpoint of Salt Lake's festival season. It was the first weekend that didn't give us weather whiplash as 75-degree temperatures became blinding blizzards overnight, and it helped all of us collectively put the final nail in winter's coffin. In addition to the stellar lineup and on-site festivities, Kilby Block Party was home to several great examples of festival food that I'm sure we'll be seeing at outdoor events for the rest of the season. Highly recommend this traditional American restaurant for a company Happy Hour! It was my team-building colleagues who brought me here today. 😊 First, we went hiking at Arastradero Creek and Acorn Trail, and then headed here for Happy Hour. It's super close, just a 5-minute drive. The ambiance is amazing! So chill, it feels like it was specially set up for the big tech companies in Silicon Valley 😂. Unlike the fancy restaurants on Mountain View Street, this place isn't commercialized. It has a more natural vibe, surrounded by dense greenery and fresh air 🌲. Paired with the current California weather and sunshine, spending Friday afternoon chatting and drinking with coworkers and friends is just perfect! The food is delicious, and the fruit-flavored drinks are great and affordable! Especially recommend their Brussels Sprouts‼️ So yummy 😭. They're roasted to a crisp, with lemon juice, garlic, and some other spices I can't name, but the flavor is top-notch! It completely masks the natural bitterness of the Brussels Sprouts. Even if you're not a fan, I bet you'll love them! We started with one plate, but that wasn't enough—everyone loved it! We ended up ordering several more plates 😂. Lastly, the service is excellent. The food comes out fast, and the servers are very responsive. You don't have to wait forever just to get a water refill. Overall, a fantastic experience! If you haven't been yet, Bay Area friends, you've got to check it out—I couldn't wait to jot down notes and share this right after coming back 😂 Highly recommended! One week after West Valley City announced its intent to close a local theater, the arts community continues to fight to keep the doors from closing.

Although a month has passed since Singing in the Rain ended, I still find myself constantly humming the tunes that are so famous. Something about that show stuck with me so profusely, it never shook off me, like a song stuck in someone’s head. I had the honor of being an assistant director and ensemble member of the show and I seem to be forever changed. When it’s raining, even when I yearn for sunny weather, I just can’t help but smile. Or when I have to deal with annoying people — trust me there are lots of them, I just look towards the good and dance through it. Because that’s what makes theater so powerful; it sticks with people. Its innate humanity is something we all connect with, helping us find a community or message that resonates with us. When we set out to plan the show, we decided the core thesis was that it’s about the little things we love, and by talking to the cast and crew, it was apparent that each member poured their passion into crafting a celebration of life’s simple joys, leaving a legacy that hums along even after the final bow.
