Local Law Clerks Benefit from Prestigious Opinion Writing Conference
The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., held the Judicial Clerkship Opinion Writing Conference in late February. The conference was designed to enhance the writing skills of future judicial law clerks. It was attended by 36 selected law clerks from across the country.
Local College of Fine Arts Students Dominate at South Dakota NATS Auditions
Students from the College of Fine Arts have received top awards at the South Dakota District and Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Auditions. Participants included students from the University of South Dakota (USD), Augustana College, South Dakota State University, and Morningside University. Tracelyn Gesteland, a professor at the college, commended the students for their performances.
Local Law Student, Justin Larson, Gains Practical Experience with Watertown Law Firm Externship
Justin Larson, a law student at the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law, completed an externship at Austin, Strait, Benson, Thole & Koehn LLP in Watertown. Larson, a South Dakota State University graduate, had prior connections with some partners at the firm. His externship, following his first year of law school, involved various tasks including assisting with mediations and jury trials, conducting research, and drafting documents.
Crystal River Native, Emma Thomas, Serves Veterans While Studying Law in South Dakota
Emma Thomas, a first-generation student from Crystal River, Florida, is studying at South Dakota's Knudson School of Law. She previously earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary social science from Florida State University. Thomas chose the Knudson School of Law for its values of excellence, service, and leadership, which align with her goals. She believes studying law in South Dakota will broaden her perspectives.
