AHSTW Rolls Past Missouri Valley 43-6
(Avoca, IA) — It was a night of celebration for AHSTW — first it was Homecoming, always a big deal — second the school honored the 1974 state championship team on their 50th anniversary and third — the Vikings beat the Big Reds 43-6. Luke Sternberg would run for 188 yards and 2 TD, plus he threw a 30 yard TD pass to Chase Wheatley, plus he got an interception at the goal line to stop a Missouri Valley; there are a lot of pluses when it comes to Sternberg is now 36 rushing yards short of 1,000 for the season. Sternberg had TD runs of 42 and 63 yards both in the first quarter and the Vikings added a safety on a bad snap off a Big Red punt. AHSTW led 23-0 at the half. Drew Lee would add three TD runs in the 2nd half. The only score for Missouri Valley was a 66 yard TD run from Rush Knudsen.
Atlantic Cross Country Team Hosts Own Meet on Thursday, October 10
(Atlantic) As the Cross-Country season winds down, Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says the Trojans are ramping up their workouts. The Trojans host their meet on Thursday, October 10, at Nishna Hills Golf Course. The Hawkeye Ten Conference meet is next week, and the State Qualifying meet is on Wednesday, October 23.
Creston Holds Off Atlantic in Class 3A District #6 Football Game
(Creston) Creston running back Weston Trapp rushed for 346 yards and scored four touchdowns, and the Panthers held off Atlantic in the waning moments of the fourth quarter to win 30-28 in a Class 3A District #6 football game at Creston on Friday night. The game featured numerous ebbs and flows, with four lead changes and one tie.
