Wolf Pac Boys Fall to Huskers in Lax Quarterfinals
YORKTOWN, N.Y.—The No. 9 seed Mahopac HS boys lacrosse team managed to make it a game for a quarter last Tuesday at Yorktown High School, but the Cornhuskers—the 41-time Section 1 champions—solved Mahopac’s game plan after a close opening period and controlled play the rest of the way in an 18–5 Class B playoff quarterfinal victory. Yorktown, the No. 1 seed, went on to beat Lakeland/Panas, 10-5, in the semifinals, and was set to face Greeley in the championship game Wednesday (May 29) at 6:30 p.m. at Yorktown High School.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE...
Marlboro strikes early, holds off Saugerties rally to win Section 9-A softball title
The Marlboro way remains the winning way. The Iron Dukes played errorless defense, ran the bases aggressively and rode good pitching to yet another Section 9 title. Marlboro beat fellow Mid-Hudson Athletic League foe Saugerties, 4-2, in the Class A final held at Newburgh's Mount Saint Mary College. Freshman Sam Maleck had three hits...
Ketcham rallies against John Jay to win a third straight Section 1 baseball championship
PURCHASE – After falling behind 2-1 in the top of the third inning, the confidence level never changed for defending champion Roy C. Ketcham. With a lineup filled with returning talent from top to bottom, the senior-heavy Storm weren’t ready to panic. Ketcham regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth and never looked back behind an MVP effort from senior pitcher Riley Weatherwax. The Storm defeated rival John Jay-East Fishkill 5-2 to claim their third...
Baseball: Wilsey, Boenig lead dramatic rally as Spackenkill edges Chester in section final
SAUGERTIES - The entire Spackenkill baseball team ran the emotional gamut on Saturday, having their season and championship reign come within an out. But nobody experienced the highs and lows on this evening quite like Ryan Wilsey. He found himself at the bottom of a celebratory dogpile, his teammates giddily tossing themselves atop the heap while the pitcher literally smiled through the pain. Then, a minute later, he was hoisted onto their shoulders as a hero while...
Baseball: Fernandez's walkoff hit lifts Marlboro over Beacon for Section 9 Class A title
SAUGERTIES — The wide smile that Tommy Benfer wore while ambling toward his teammates during their celebration was, in some ways, a snapshot of this Marlboro group. Because in that instant, the physical pain and the emotional anguish of the injury he suffered an hour earlier didn’t seem to matter at all. Foremost for him was the team success, and that attitude, along with an in-the-moment mindset, has permeated the roster. ...
Girls lacrosse: Martin's last-second save sends Wappingers to first Section 1 final
That moment, coach Sean Rowan said, was “pure ecstasy.” And how could it not have been for the Wappingers girls lacrosse team?. In a scene plucked straight from a movie, their season came down to the inexperienced, unheralded goalkeeper having to stop the star on the opposing team in a dramatic final sequence.
Pine Bush softball takes advantage of two errors for winning rally against Newburgh
Don't let the regular-season matchups fool you. Pine Bush dropped both contests against Newburgh Free Academy during the Orange County league season, but got the big one when it counted most. Trailing 2-0 headed into the top of the fourth inning the fourth-seeded Bushmen took advantage of a pair of...
Softball: Tuckahoe repeats as Section 1 Class C champion with win over Haldane
GARNERVILLE - After getting a taste of Section 1 Class C championship glory, the Tigers were determined to climb back on top once again. Despite only having one senior on this year's roster, the Tigers had plenty of younger players who started in big roles and earned lots of playing time over the...

Mahopac Unified Basketball to Host Brewster on May 28
MAHOPAC, N.Y. — The Mahopac Wolf Pac unified basketball team staged a furious comeback in a home game against Brewster earlier this month, falling just short before an enthusiastic crowd at the high school gym. Now in its third season, the team’s roster includes students with special needs and their general education teammates who play five to six games a year. The program’s success has led Mahopac to add unified bowling to its athletic programs. With family, staff, and fellow athletes from Mahopac’s lacrosse, track, and football teams looking on from the stands, the squad fought back from an early deficit thanks to a 10-point run in the closing moments, but Brewster managed to hold on to win 38-28.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Mahopac will get a chance for revenge when Brewster returns to the high school, along with North Salem, on May 28 at 4 p.m. for the unified Wolf Pac’s season finale.
