A disagreement that escalated into a shooting left a man dead in Tacoma on Monday near I-5 and the Emerald Queen Casino.

The man was shot just before 8 p.m. at the 2000 block of East 28th Street. He succumbed to his injuries after Tacoma officers and fire department personnel attempted live-saving measures, The News Tribune reported.

The man and the alleged shooter had an interaction earlier that day at a different location in Tacoma. It escalated into a disagreement, and the alleged shooter followed the man in his car until they reached East 28th Street, Tacoma Police Department detective William Muse told The News Tribune on Wednesday.

The shooter fired shots at the man, Muse said. Police later contacted the alleged shooter who retained an attorney, provided a statement and is cooperating with the investigation. The case will be submitted to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.

Muse said the victim and the alleged shooter were not strangers.
