Tacoma police have launched a homicide investigation after officers arrived at a local trail and discovered a man with gunshot wounds early on Saturday morning.

Officers were dispatched to a trail close to the 1900 block of South Mullen Street, according to a news release. Police responded just before 1:30 a.m. to a report that someone had been shot.

Tacoma Police Department spokesperson William Muse told The News Tribune that the shooting occurred at the Scott Pierson Trail.

The victim was a man in his early 20s, the release said. Police carried out life-saving measures until personnel with the Tacoma Fire Department relieved them, but the man died from his injuries.

Detectives and crime-scene technicians have responded to the scene, the news release said.

The news release noted that police have not made any arrests. It’s unknown what happened in the lead-up to the shooting.
