Florida State trending for 4-star TE Chase Loftin

Earlier this year, the chances of pulling Omaha (Neb.) Millard South four-star tight end Chase Loftin out of his home state looked slim. Nebraska was considered the program to beat for the coveted blue-chipper.

With a decision likely around the corner, that’s no longer the case. Florida State has made a serious move for the top-300 recruit and is now trending heavily for his commitment in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Six picks have been logged in favor of the Seminoles in the last 24 hours. On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong was the first to do so on Friday night, pegging Mike Norvell’s program as the new frontrunner for the top TE.

“After talking to a couple sources with knowledge of the recruitment I’ve logged an On3 RPM in favor of the Seminoles for the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Loftin,” Wiltfong wrote.

Loftin didn’t make his first trip to Tallahassee until April, when he logged an impressive spring visit that left him wanting to return. He did just that earlier this month as he took an official visit to FSU on June 7. Norvell, TEs coach Chris Thomsen and the rest of the staff have made Loftin feel like a top priority.

“Florida State definitely just set the bar,” Loftin told On3 after the OV. “I had a great time. I loved spending time with the coaching staff especially Coach Norvell and Coach Thomsen! They continue to impress me and are going to be a great option for the decision coming soon!”

The in-state Cornhuskers, Missouri and Texas A&M also had Loftin on campus for officials this month. Back in March, he announced his top 10 schools, which also featured the likes of Florida, Penn State, Miami, Oklahoma and Auburn.

Loftin is the No. 286 overall prospect and No. 17 TE in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 player in Nebraska.

Seminoles add three impressive commitments in June

FSU entered the month of June with just four commits in its 2025 recruiting class. Three more have now joined the fold since June 24 — all of whom are top-150 prospects.

Greensboro (Ga.) Greene County four-star defensive lineman Kevin Wynn kicked things off earlier this week, announcing his pledge to the Seminoles on Monday. Just one day later he was joined by fellow blue-chip Peach State prospect CJ Wiley, On3’s No. 6 wide receiver in the nation out of Milton (Ga.) High. FSU beat out Georgia and LSU in a shocking recruiting win for Norvell and Co.

“I think the biggest thing is the familiarity with some of the staff members,” Wiley’s father Chuck said of what stands out about the Seminoles to On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “They offered CJ in the ninth grade. They’ve been around for a minute. Coach Norvell has been to the school several times. Coach (Alex) Atkins has been to the school a couple times. It’s been a big recruiting effort. Coach (Ron) Dugans has definitely been down there too.”

Port Charlotte (Fla.) four-star DL Myron Charles is the latest edition to the class and is the No. 127 recruit and No. 9 D-lineman in the cycle. All seven commits in the class are either four or five-star prospects, with Jacksonville Raines five-star interior lineman Solomon Thomas still leading the way as the No. 14 overall recruit. Cocoa (Fla.) four-star EDGE commit Javion Hilson is a top-40 recruit and the No. 4 EDGE in the nation.
