Defending HBCU national champion Florida A&M has just added a former Power Five defender to its roster.

Brayln Oliver, a former safety at Syracuse and Louisville, has committed to Florida A&M.

The Anderson, SC was listed as the No. 43 safety by the 247Sports Composite rankings for the 2021 class. He was a three-star Rivals.com prospect, which rated him as the No. 41 safety in the nation and the No. 21 prospect in the state of South Carolina.

Oliver initially committed to Louisville but hit the transfer portal before the start of the season. He committed to Oregon State in late 2021, but never suited up there, either. After transferring to Syracuse, he appeared in nine games as a reserve defensive back and on special teams at his third stop at a Power Five school. He had five tackles on the season, three of them coming against Wagner. He sat out last season as a redshirt sophomore and hit the transfer portal following the season.

The 6’2, 194 pounder joins a Florida A&M team fresh off SWAC and HBCU national titles after winning the Celebration Bowl. It also has plenty of holes to fill on a defense that saw many key players leave via the transfer portal.
