With expansion plans ahead, the Tampa Bay-based chain restaurant, Acropolis Greek Taverna is bringing a taste of the Mediterranean to Tallahassee.

According to the company's website, Acropolis Greek Taverna is looking to increase its southeast footprint, with locations proposed for Tallahassee, Orlando and Atlanta. It doesn't disclose any specific locations under consideration.

The Greek-themed cuisine is described by the restaurant as both "fresh and delicious."

It would join a bevy of other new and longtime Greek/Mediterranean-themed menu eateries in Tallahassee, including Pitaria and Sahara Cafe (Apalachee Parkway), Kairos Mediterranean (Market Square), Taziki's (Magnolia Drive), Yasou Fresh Mediterranean (Southwood), Little Athens (West Tennessee Street), CAVA (Thomasville Road), and what's considered the 'granddaddy' of local Greek food, Captain Pete's House of Gyros (Capital Circle Northeast), to name a few.

Fans of the restaurant who've had the pleasure to try its multiple Tampa locations first heard the news of the restaurant's venture into Tallahassee in the Facebook social food group, Tallahassee Foodies.

A wave of excitement has followed the news as it continues to circulate on the social media platform.

One user commented, "That’s so exciting!! I love the one in Tampa!!" While another user commented, "Heck yeah! Used to live there. Fabulous food."

Based on all the praises and reactions the proposed location has gotten, those who haven't tried it are anxiously anticipating its arrival.

Acropolis Greek Taverna representatives were not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.

    Highlights of the menu

The Greek menu is quite generous, with a variety of dishes to choose from.

Saganaki, aka "flaming cheese," is a highlight. The grilled kefalograviera cheese flambé with cognac is lit tableside to shouts of "Opa!"

The "Shares" portion of the menu offers a range of seafood and dips to choose from including the "Ouzu Mussels" prepared in a creamy ouzo sauce with garlic, onion, basil, and tomato, topped with Parmesan cheese.

Sandwiches, burgers and wraps are also are on the menu, including the "Athenian chicken," seasoned with red onions, tomatoes, and spring greens, topped with onion aioli.

Specialties include meat kabobs and a number of elaborate seafood dishes including the "Acropolis Seafood," sautéed shrimp, mussels, scallops, mushrooms, red onions and bell peppers with Acropolis signature roasted red pepper sauce over rice or penne pasta.

Along with its hefty menu, comes spirited drinks and wines featured in weekly specials, from "Martini Monday" to "Thirsty Thursday" with live performances for "Greek Nights" sprinkled in.
