After Jimbo Fisher left the Florida State Seminoles for Texas A&M in 2017, the Seminoles have been searching for the next coach to restore the program's prominence.

After initially hiring Willie Taggert, the Seminoles experienced two losing seasons. Florida State then made a change and brought in Mike Norvell.

The team had a tough start, finishing below .500 performances in the first two seasons under Norvell. Over the next two years, Florida State has shown significant improvement, achieving a 23-4 record, including arguably being snubbed from the College Football Playoff last year.

On3's Andy Staples believes that Norvell's work to bring Florida State back near the top of college football has been remarkable.

"I actually love what Mike Norvell has done there," Staples said. "Because I remember what it was like when Willie Taggert got fired. I remember the whole that he had to get them out of. The job he's done there has been amazing."

Staples admires Norvell's progress but recognizes the challenging task of replacing star quarterback Jordan Travis in 2024.

The Seminoles are attempting to do just that with D.J. Uiagalelei. The 23-year-old has been a solid player in his career but hasn't entirely lived up to his five-star status. He has thrown for just over 8,000 yards, 57 touchdowns and 24 interceptions with a 59.1% completion percentage.

Despite the departures of wide receiver Keon Coleman and defensive linemen Jared Verse and Braden Fiske, if Florida State can get good play from Uiagalelei, Staples believes the Seminoles could emerge as the team to beat in the ACC again.
