A GoFundMe has been created to help the family of a Tallahassee couple who were hit by a pickup truck Saturday night and killed while crossing the road after a fireworks show in Franklin County.

Benjamin "Ben" Steigner and his wife, Han Wool "Monica" Hong, were visiting his parents, John and Sharon Steigner, when the wreck occurred, according to the GoFundMe. The fundraiser was set up by Juan Felipe Emerick, who described himself as a close family friend.

"Ben & Monica were visiting from Tallahassee where both were teachers," Emerick wrote. Until recently, both taught at Tallahassee Classical School, a public charter school in Leon County.

"The Steigner family are the most caring, compassionate and loving family to everyone around them," Emerick added. "My hope is now in their time of need we can help them."

The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday as the couple walked across U.S. Highway 98 in Lanark Village, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. They were hit by a pickup truck driven by a 25-year-old woman.

Ben Steigner, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hong, 40, was taken to Weems Hospital, where she died. The driver of the crash, whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol, which is conducting a homicide investigation, has not said whether charges are possible.

Funeral services were initially set for Bevis Funeral Home but have been moved to Four Oaks Church because of an expected crowd of guests. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, located at 4500 W. Shannon Lakes Drive. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Tallahassee Memorial Gardens.
