Todd Bowles, ex-Buc John Lynch added to NFL’s Competition Committee

TAMPA — Todd Bowles has won the NFC South in back-to-back seasons since becoming the Bucs’ head coach.

His profile will only increase after the NFL announced Friday that Bowles and 49ers general manager John Lynch have been added to the league’s prestigious Competition Committee.

The committee, which currently consists of eight members, reviews all competitive aspects of the game, including but not limited to playing rules, roster regulations, technology, game-day operations and player protection.

Bowles, 60, brings a varied perspective to the committee. He has enjoyed a long career as both a player and coach. He was a defensive back with Washington and San Francisco from 1986-1993.

Likewise, Lynch was a Pro Football Hall of Fame safety with the Bucs and Broncos.

With discussions about expanding the regular season to 20 games and evolving rules changes, it’s an important time for committee members.

With the addition of Bowles and Lynch, the committee has a distinctive Tampa Bay flavor.

Other members include Falcons CEO Rich McKay and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, as well as Cowboys executive vice president and CEO Steven Jones, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier, Giants president John Mara, Bengals vice president Katie Blackburn, Bills coach Sean McDermott and Rams coach Sean McVay.
