    Here's how to celebrate Juneteenth in Tampa Bay

    America's second independence day is coming up next week, but related events in Tampa Bay begin this weekend.

    • Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they had been freed.

    Here's a round-up of some of the biggest events leading up to Emancipation Day.

    🗣️ Juneteenth Celebration — A free, daytime celebration at USF's Gibbons Alumni Center, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa. Hosted by the USF Black Alumni Society.

    • Food vendors, jazz music, panels and dancers.
    • Saturday, 11am-6pm.

    🥳 Juneteenth Festival — The city of Tampa is hosting the fourth edition of this free annual event inside Raymond James Stadium.

    • DJs, dance performances, live music, food and retail vendors, plus a kid zone.
    • Saturday, 3-9pm.

    🖼️ Juneteenth Cultural Celebration — A family-friendly, free event hosted by the Tampa Museum of Art, 120 W Gasparilla Plaza.

    • Art-making activities, creator showcase, gallery tours, live music and local vendors.
    • Saturday, 10am-5pm.

    🎺 Juneteenth Music Festival — An outdoor concert hosted by the Phyllis Wheatley Rise to Read Campaign at Albert Whitted Park, 480 Bayshore Dr. SE, St. Pete.

    • Artists include Shawn Brown, Siobhan Monique, Beat Down Band and Nathan Mitchell.
    • Saturday, 4-9pm. Tickets: $35 .

    🎶 Juneteenth Gospel Fest — Also hosted by the Phyllis Wheatley campaign at Bethel Community Baptist Church 2901 54th Ave. S., St. Pete.

    • Performances by Maiya Stevenson, Shyann Roberts, The Tampa Bay Boyz and more.
    • Sunday, 4-6pm. Reserve a free ticket here .

    👮🏿‍♂️ Juneteenth Summer Block Party — A free event hosted by the Tampa Police Department and its Black History Committee . Perry Harvey Park, 1000 E. Harrison St.

    • Features food trucks, games and activities.
    • Wednesday, 4-6pm.
