The Tampa Bay History Center and Tampa Housing Authority unveiled a collaboration to curate Tampa's first Black history museum.

Why it matters: The museum celebrates the "lasting cultural impact of African Americans" in Tampa and aims to inspire future generations, per a press release.

Zoom in: The Housing Authority spent about $2 million to restore the former St. James Episcopal Church near Ybor City, which will house the museum, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

    • Exhibits will include accounts of Black music, fashion and more.

What they're saying: "This partnership represents months of thoughtful planning, born of a desire to work together to share Tampa's Black history," says C.J. Roberts, president and CEO of the Tampa Bay History Center.
