The first time my family walked into a Ponderosa Steakhouse was in the late 1960s. It was new and the experience was great. Like other new restaurants, if the management doesn't stay on top, the quality of service can decline. The location we went to did change through the years, but in the beginning, it was great.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted defenseman Ben Danford with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft on Friday. Danford tallied 33 points in 64 games with the OHL's Oshawa Generals last season. He added 10 points in 21 playoff games as the Generals lost to Easton Cowan and the London Knights in the OHL Final.

The San Jose Sharks made two selections in the first round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, but one of them arrived in San Jose in a far more roundabout manner than the other. Choosing Macklin Celebrini first overall was easy, but the Sharks’ second pick was far less defined. Ultimately, they filled in the blank by trading up from 14th overall to 11th, then using their new slot to take London Knights defenseman Sam Dickinson. All three of these moves combined make for a very strong first round for the Sharks. But while the top choice was a no-brainer, the trade-up and selection of Dickinson weren’t as easy to execute — but they were good, well-timed transactions that can set up the Sharks for future success.

With the 2024 NHL Entry Draft wrapping up in Las Vegas on June 29, all 32 teams added plenty of hopeful future NHLers to their organizations. Some teams made surprising moves, while others found themselves getting possible steals. Grading drafts almost immediately after the conclusion of it (especially an NHL Draft) is tough and can certainly prove to be wrong down the road, but with that said, let’s take a shot at it and see what they all look like in a few seasons.

Grading Each Team’s 2024 Draft Class

Philadelphia, PA

The Philadelphia Flyers completed their first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, and, well, it was a shocker, to say the least. They made the most surprising pick of the night by taking Jett Luchanko with their 13th overall selection, who was a second-round graded player by many. With arguably the best defensive prospect that we have seen in the last few seasons, Zeev Buium, miraculously on the board but the Flyers choosing to trade back a spot, this was definitely a questionable decision.
