Lightning Have Intriguing Target in Ex-Bruins Forward

The Tampa Bay Lightning have had a busy offseason, and their roster is much different than at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. While this is the case, it is clear that they should not be done yet, as they could use at least one more top-nine winger before next season begins.

While most of the top free agents from this year’s class have found their new homes, a few decent players could still grab the Lightning’s attention. One specific player who could be a solid addition to the Lightning’s roster is James van Riemsdyk.

At this juncture of his career, van Riemsdyk is no longer the top-six winger he was during his prime. While this is the case, he showed this past season with the Boston Bruins that he is still plenty capable of producing solid depth offensive production in a bottom-six role. In 71 games last season with the Bruins, he posted 11 goals, 38 points, and a plus-7 rating.

With the Lightning needing more offensive production in their middle six, van Riemsdyk would have the potential to be a solid addition to their roster. Given the fact that we are now two weeks into free agency, it also appears possible that he would be willing to sign a cheap one-year deal – just like he did with the Bruins for 2023-24.

If the Lightning signed van Riemsdyk, he would be a clear fit on their third line. In addition, he would give them another solid option for their power play, as he is impactful with his net-front presence ability.
