Lightning Hit Home Run Trading for Star

Back during the 2021-22 season, the Tampa Bay Lightning traded Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk, a 2023 first-round pick (Oliver Moore), and a 2024 first-round pick (Cole Eiserman, NYI) to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Brandon Hagel and two fourth-round picks.

While the Lightning gave up some notable assets, specifically two first-rounders, for Hagel, the Bolts are incredibly happy about this move.

Hagel has blossomed into a star with the Lightning and will be a long-term part of their core because of it. Hagel broke out for the Lightning in 2022-23, when he posted 30 goals, 64 points, and a plus-23 rating in 81 games. While this was a big year for the Saskatoon native, he was even better this past season. In 82 games for the Lightning in 2024-25, he had 26 goals and set new career highs with 49 assists and 75 points.

Hagel seems to get better with each passing season, and this trend should continue into 2024-25. At just 25 years old, Hagel still has the potential to improve even further.

Nevertheless, while the Hagel trade had some risks when it was first made, it has surely aged magnificently for the Lightning.
