WM (formerly known as Waste Management) is North America’s largest recycler and leading provider of environmental and sustainability solutions. WM seeks to expand its commitment to serving the Hillsborough County community by building the state-of-the-art WM Recycling Tampa Bay Sustainability Campus.

The 11-acre campus, which would be built on WM-owned land in eastern Ybor City, would be adjacent to the existing WM recycling facility that opened in 2012. The proposed new WM Recycling Tampa Bay facility is expected to process up to 228,000 tons of recyclable material per year, or 50 tons per hour, through state-of-the-art technology that will help expand and improve recycling programs for Hillsborough County residents and businesses now and well into the future.

Upon opening the new recycling facility, WM could then retrofit its existing facility in Tampa to expand services that the community needs. For example, the facility could become a Construction & Demolition (C&D) recycling facility, which has become a growing need as development booms in the area; or a transfer station, which would improve collection efficiencies in the county.

The proposed WM Recycling Tampa Bay Sustainability Campus is expected to be part of WM’s planned investment of more than $1 billion in upgraded and expanded recycling infrastructure across the United States and Canada from 2022 through 2026. This investment is already coming to fruition in Florida through WM’s recent $18 million upgrade of its recycling facility in Brevard County and the upcoming construction of the $80 million WM Recycling South Florida facility in Pembroke Pines, which is expected to be one of the largest and most technologically advanced recycling facilities in the country.

As a leader in providing sustainability solutions, WM’s nearly 5,000 team members in Florida have decades of experience serving communities across the state, making WM the right fit to build Hillsborough County’s new recycling facility.
