Softball: Bernards Hammers Hackettstown, 13-3, in State Tournament

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ -- Bernards scored 11 runs in the first inning and went on to a 13-3 softball victory over Hackettstown in the first round of the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 2 tournament on Wednesday.

Winning pitcher Madison Lardieri went 2-for-5 with a home run and five runs batted in, Gina Mahlik went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Silje Emery was 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Mountaineers (16-6).

Lardieri pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

Bernards, the sixth-seed, will play at third-seeded Ridgefield Park in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday.
