Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange to host Father Philip J. Waters for a Memorial Day Mass honoring America’s fallen heroes

East Orange, N.J. – Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark invites the public to honor the memories of fallen heroes and celebrate the service of veterans and active-duty military personnel at Memorial Day Masses on Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m. across various archdiocesan cemeteries. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange, located at 125 Central Avenue, will host Father Philip J. Waters for their Memorial Day Mass.

The Archdiocese will join thousands of Catholic cemeteries across the U.S. in a national celebration, “Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes.” This national program, developed by the Catholic Cemetery Conference, honors men and women who died serving in the armed forces while recognizing both active-duty military and veterans.

"Let us come together to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our nation with honor and sacrifice,” said Joseph M. Heckel, K.H.S., CCCE, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark. “We are called to cherish their memories, support their families, and celebrate their legacies."

Most Masses will be held outdoors under large canopy tents, with seating provided.

Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark is committed to honoring and remembering veterans throughout the year during monthly Masses, Veteran's Day, Flag Day, and Memorial Day. Flags fly daily in designated areas across all archdiocesan cemeteries, and over 1,000 American flags are placed at the memorials of interred veterans for Memorial Day, remaining through Flag Day.
