    Brooklyn Man Arrested in Warren County for Identity Theft; Linked to Statewide Fraud Cases

    WARREN COUNTY, NJ - An investigation in Greenwich Township on July 30, 2024, led to the arrest of a Brooklyn native utilizing fraudulent information at a bank as well as linking him to various identity theft investigations in New Jersey.

    At 11:39 AM, the Greenwich Township Police Department responded to the TD Bank located on State Highway 22 for a report of an individual allegedly utilizing fraudulent information to obtain a TD Bank credit card, according to a statement from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

    Authorities identified Luis A. Godoy, 52, of Brooklyn, New York, as the suspect responsible.

    Godoy was arrested and charged with third-degree forgery by attempting to alter the victim’s TD Bank account information, third-degree for presenting a false government document, specifically a New Jersey drivers license, and fourth-degree impersonation of another with the purpose to benefit himself or another or to injure or defraud another.

    This investigation was conducted by the Greenwich Township Police Department.

    Additionally, Godoy was linked to numerous investigations throughout New Jersey and was also arrested by Denville Police.

    TAPinto Denville reported that on January 30, 2024, the Denville Township Police Department was advised of an identity theft incident that also occurred at the TD Bank in Denville. This investigation revealed that Godoy opened a bank account with a fake ID and bank card to obtain money from a victim’s account.

    The Denville Police Department says the investigation revealed a link to numerous other identity theft investigations throughout the State of New Jersey.

    The Denville Police Department arrested Godoy on charges of assuming a false identity, and the possession and exhibiting of fake documents. He was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
