ASBURY PARK, NJ - Asbury Park has been named a Gold Level winner in the 2024 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Recognition Program , a prestigious honor bestowed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) . This accolade, managed by the New Jersey Safe Routes Resource Center in collaboration with regional transportation safety agency EZ-Ride, acknowledges the city’s commitment to enhancing the health and safety of schoolchildren, including those with disabilities, by promoting safe walking and biking routes to school.

The Gold Level distinction was awarded to Asbury Park for its outstanding dedication to the SRTS program, which is reflected through various educational and safety initiatives. The Asbury Park Police Department’s Traffic Safety Division, in partnership with EZ-Ride, played a crucial role in this achievement by organizing programs such as Walk to School days, conducting annual crossing guard training, and adopting an updated Complete Streets Policy. This recognition is valid for three years, during which the city will be eligible for SRTS infrastructure grants, including the ongoing SRTS Third and Fourth Avenues Traffic Calming Grant.
